The weekend of November 12-15 the Cammy Awards will be held, featuring one of the largest gathering of bands in one location at one time in the southeast. The weekend will begin on Thursday (12th) at Ducks & Fat Harolds on Main St., North Myrtle Beach, with DJ's from the Associations of DJ's. For more information go to this web site: http://www.cammy.org/.
In the spring of 2001 the Grand Strand will get a huge new 1.3 million square foot shopping mall. Burroughs and Chapin will close down the existing Myrtle Square Mall at that time and replace it with the new mall, to be located on the US 17 Bypass near the airport. Five anchor and 100 smaller stores will be in the mall, including a Dillard's ( a Home Depot will be near the mall), and many of the Myrtle Square Mall stores will relocate. Shopping is very popular at the beach; the Grand Strand is 7th in the U. S. in per capita retail sales.
The owners of Barefoot Landing are planning a 5000-home, 2400-acre resort development across the Intracoastal from their shopping center. Barefoot Landing Resort would also contain 2 hotels, a convention center, four golf courses, and a marina.
There is a proposal to turn the long-abandoned site of the Magic Harbour amusement park into a campground.
