The Damon's Restaurant at the south end of Myrtle Beach that burned earlier this summer will be rebuilt. It should reopen next spring and feature an outdoor bar. The other Damon's in Barefoot Landing remains open.
One of the two slain Capitol police officers, J. J. Chestnut, was a native of the Myrtle Beach area. He was plannning a family reunion on the Grand Strand for next month.
The new Myrtle Beach minor league baseball team will begin play next year, with the home opener April 12. The Atlanta Braves farm team will be called the Pelicans.
A new miniature golf facility has opened at 7th Ave. N. and U.S. 17 Business very near the Pavilion. Mount Atlanticus has two courses and two very difficult bonus holes. If you get a hole-in-one on the bonus hole, you get a lifetime pass.
The discount airline Myrtle Beach Jet Express has canceled all its flights except two per day to Newark. Travel agents are avoiding the airline, citing frequent delays and cancellations. Area officials point out the service did advertise heavily in some northern cities and raised awareness of the Myrtle Beach area.
The play 'Annie' will be presented at Wheelwright Auditorium, on the Coastal Carolina campus, on August 13 - 15 at 7:30 p.m. and August 16 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12, $7 for children and seniors. Thanks to a reader for this info.
The New Age Russian Circus is performing under a tent at Broadway at the Beach through Sept. 7, Mondays through Saturdays at 6 and 8 p.m.
