The predominantly black Memorial Day Biker Fest has come and gone. There was a greatly expanded police presence this year, and things went better than last year, but there were still numerous complaints from residents, other visitors, and business owners. The general consensus was that the police did the best they could, but it is hard to control over 100,000 very young people intent on partying. Traffic was difficult as usuual. Most businesses reported down revenues, often the lowest weekend totals of the month (a few years ago the holiday weekend was far and away the biggest weekend of the month). Some residents of normally quiet golf course communities were wary of leaving their condos.

'A Peace of 72' , a new religious play set in the early 70's, is now playing at the Savoy Theater in Fantasy Harbour. The story is about what would have happened had Jesus returned to earth in 1972. The music is rock and pop-oriented. Shows are every day except Friday, some at 4 p.m. and some at 8 p.m. (call 800-681-5209 or 843-236-8500). $15, discounts for children. Through August 16. 'Big Band at the Savoy' returns September 1.

A few changes at the Pavilion Amusement Park this year: A new roller coaster, the Mad Mouse, costing over $2 million, is opening soon. A new air boat ride opened earlier this year. The all day wristband is now $18.95.
