At Fantasy Harbour, the Gatlin Brothers Theater will feature two shows this spring, Moments to Remember with Steve Gatlin and An Evening with Larry Gatlin. This summer, Steve and Rudy Gatlin will headline. The Savoy Theater will have the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra this spring.

The Serenade Show, featuring a variety of musical styles, normally plays in its home theater in Charleston, but will be performing at the Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach on January 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 8 p.m.

TWA and Jet Express will be jointly offering air service to the Grand Strand from New York and St. Louis beginning February 20. Round trip fares will be between $160 and $200. Another airline, America West, is also instituting flights to Myrtle Beach, but has not announced any details. Analysts expect charter flights and golf packages to be offered to the Midwest and possibly Northeast, probably on a seasonal basis.

Jet Express is also offering discount fares of $78 to many of its destinations; flights must be booked by January 20 and taken from February 20 to March 6. Rival Sprint is offering $60 flights to Chicago and Newark from February 12 - 18, and is adding daily flights to Chicago and Newark, non-stops to Cleveland, and twice weekly flights to Orlando.

Organizers of the Gay Pride 98 march have decided against boycotting Broadway at the Beach merchants, since some of the businesses are supporting the event. Burroughs and Chapin, owner of Broadway at the Beach, is opposing the march. Meanwhile, some Baptist ministers are calling for a boycott of any companies that do support the event.

The LPGA's City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic golf tournament will be held at the Wachesaw East course for at least three more years. This year's competition is April 16 - 19.

The developers of the large Carolina Forest subdivision and Horry County Council have agreed on long term zoning and development plans. International Paper will set aside lands for parks, schools and roads, including the Carolina Bays Parkway, and the county will freeze zoning ordinances.

Plans are moving forward to build much needed new roads along the strand. At least $545 million appear headed for new beach roads. Some final approval steps are still needed. Included in the plan is the Conway Bypass (portions two lanes only), the Carolina Bays Parkway west of North Myrtle Beach (to 62nd Avenue in Myrtle Beach), and some widening of S.C. 544.

Waites Island, the large uninhabited island stretching from just north of Cherry Grove to the North Carolina border, will apparently remain undeveloped for the foreseeable future. Most of it has been purchased by an investor who usually holds on to his purchases for years and does not develop on them. The rest of the island is already a nature preserve.

The Kingston Plantation hotel has changed its name to the Embassy Suites after completing a renovation project.
