The Senior Tour Championship was a battle between the two leading money winners all year, with Gil Morgan defeating Hale Irwin by two strokes. Both players earned over $2 million this year, with Irwin taking the money title. The 60-plus Championship division was won by Charles Coody.
A restaurant called Austin's at the Beach took the top prizes at the annual Taste of the Town competition. They won for best entree (grilled filet mignon), best dessert (chocolate chocolate fudge nut pie), and best overall. I am not familiar with this establishment but will try to check it out soon and give a full review.

It doesn't seem like gambling is that widespread in South Carolina. Video poker machines, which slipped through a legal loophole originally and have since been approved in a state referendum, are not concentrated in huge casinos, but spread out among thousands of bars, convenience stores, and the like. Yet the state now has more gambling machines than any others except Nevada and New Jersey, and the latter state may be surpassed soon. Horry County alone has 3500 games in over 750 businesses. The administration of the conservation Gov. Beasley is trying to figure out how to cut down on the proliferation of gambling, while the machine operators say they will fight any such moves. The average payout on video poker is 70 percent of the total amount wagered.
