Next weekend, from Nov. 13 to 16, the Dickens Christmas Show will come to the Convention Center. This usually excellent show will have arts and crafts, food, and displays of Santas, trees, wreaths, and centerpieces. The great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens will be in attendance. Admission is $6, $2 for children, and hours are 9-9 (except Sunday 1-6).
Some special events will be held in conjunction with the show this year:
Tea with Mr. Dickens and the Long Bay Symphony Chamber Music Ensemble, Nov. 15. Lunch 12-2, tea 4-5. $16.
Two balls with dancing and supper. Nov. 14, 7 p.m., $32.50 and Nov. 15, 8 p.m., $100.
Plantation tours of Mansfield, Hopsewee, and the 1790 House, Nov. 10-16, 8:45 a.m., $55.
Special Christmas show at the Carolina Opry, Nov. 10-15, 8 p.m., $26.

The Rockettes are coming to the Palace at Broadway at the Beach from November 13 to December 21. Here is the exact schedule: No shows on any Mondays. Besides Mondays, there will be 8 p.m. shows every day except Nov. 16, and 3 p.m. shows every day except Nov. 13 and 27 and Dec. 16, 17, and 19. 11 a.m. shows will be performed Nov. 18, 19, 22 and 29, plus Dec. 2, 3, 6, 9, 13, and 20. Fantasy Harbour will see productions of Grease Feb. 10-15 and Les Miserables March 24-29 of next year.
The Energizer Senior Tour Championship PGA golf tournament is going on right now at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Saturday's round begins at 9 a.m., Sunday's at 10 a.m. Parking is available at Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, and the Springmaid Beach Pier, with shuttle buses to the course. You can catch it on ESPN; Saturday's coverage is 3:30 - 5:30 and Sunday's is 5 - 7.
Starting two years from now the Senior Tour Championship will be held at a new TPC course being built just to host the tournament. The Fazio designed course will be just west of Murrells Inlet, and will open for public play in October 1998. These courses have numerous large overlooks for spectators. The 17th hole will have water on three sides. A large clubhouse and restaurant will be on site. Green fees will be on the high side.
The South Carolina Bluegrass Festival will come to the Convention Center Nov. 27 - 29. Performing will be Ricky Skaggs, the Osborne Brothers, the Lewis Family, Kentucky Thunder, IIIrd Time Around, and a number of other acts. Tickets are $20 - $25. Call 803-448-7166.

The beach renourishment pipe will be moving to the area between Haskell Circle and 82nd Ave. N. on Nov. 9. Beginning Dec. 2 the project will cover 8th Ave. N. to 34th Ave. N. By Jan. 9 the Myrtle Beach portion of the project will be done.
Outlet Park at Wacammaw is under new ownership. They are planning two expansions, one for June 1998 and a second in 1999.
A new German / Austrian style restaurant is open at the Village Square Shopping Center on U.S. 17 in Myrtle Beach. Cafe Old Vienna operates from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The two Spinnaker's restaurants (in Briarcliffe and Inlet Square malls) have closed, part of a chain-wide shrinkage of stores.
Folks in Murrells Inlet are trying to get the bike path in Litchfield Beach extended through their town. Another local group is part of a 5-state effort to get a new freeway, I-73, built from Detroit to Charleston (and through Myrtle Beach). This is one of several attempts that have been mounted to get an interstate built to or through the Grand Strand. A plan to extend I-20 from Florence to Myrtle Beach looked promising a few years back, but never got off the drawing board.
